Watch that dog!

Peak District Moorland Group

It’s great to see many other Peak District stakeholders now seem to be taking the disturbance of free roaming dogs in the bird nesting time seriously.

Since its conception, PDMG have highlighted the potentially devastating effects disturbance can have once ground nesting birds have started to nest.

Whilst most of our moorland birds will not start laying for a while yet, the law states that on Countryside Rights of Way areas, dogs must be on a short lead from 1st March (some CRoW areas do not allow any dogs) unless permitted working dogs or where the dogs are on a permissive right of way (where the dog must be under strict control and not leave the PRoW).
