The problems with fuel load

Peak District Moorland Group

A great opportunity last night to present the latest science and real experience gained from moorland management and fighting wildfires with the latest cohort of Fire Rescue Service personnel from within the Peak District, as part of a 3 day moorland wildfire, fire behaviour and navigation course.

Current policy and regulation was discussed and how that is negatively affecting the potential scale and occurences of wildfire on our moorland areas and ultimately how that will impact on the Fire Rescue Service resources.

The "elephant in the room" which is the implications of rewilding and fuel load build up was also discussed in depth...

Sadly the next time we might meet these trained professionals will undoubtedly be battling the next wave of wildfires to hit our moorland areas.
