Ssssslithering around
North Yorkshire Moors Moorland Organisation
Did you know that the UK is home to 6 species of reptile: Common Lizard, Sand Lizard, Slow Worm, Grass snake, Smooth snake and Adder.
Not all of these are found on the #NorthYorkMoors but several of our estates do now monitor reptiles and their numbers.
Slow worms, Common Lizards and also the UK's only venomous snake the Adder can be found in the area but are so often missed, overlooked or under recorded. These three are all cold blooded creatures and would normally become less active at night but due to the recent spell of hot weather and the fact that the temperature hasn't dropped at night some have remained active during the darkness. It is definitely worth keeping an eye out for them and see what you can spot.
