Osprey ahoy!

Although the purple heather is still showing signs of summer, the Ospreys have now started to migrate to Africa.

Ospreys are frequent visitors to the North Yorkshire Moors as a passage bird. They hang around for a few days to feed up and ready themselves for their long journey ahead. They are seen in spring and autumn and are considered to be a fish eater although they will also eat reptiles like snakes, amphibians such as frogs and even small birds. Their wing span is around 1.5 meters and they are Amber listed for conservation.
