Less is moor!

Peak District Moorland Group

As outlined in this post from Marsden Moor NT.

Molinia will often appear in abundance after a summer wildfire event, and will always pose a problem for future fires due to its high fuel load and increased flammability, due to its monoculture dominance and attributes, the attractiveness and feeding potential for wildlife is also poor.

Its great that their team are addressing this issue and reseeding and planting a moorland mix and not just relying on rewetting to prevent future summer wildfires.

We would suggest the next step would be to manage the fuel load and create an uneven age mosaic by all available methods appropriate to the location. Not only will this help to mitigate landscape scale wildfires, but will also improve wildlife diversity - as historically undertaken on shooting moorland estates for generations.

Well done Marsden!
