Autumn vibes
Yorkshire Dales Moorland Group
Autumn is upon us here in the Yorkshire Dales.
The colours of the countryside and the emerging textures are a sight to behold. The prescribed heather burning season commenced on 1st October and if conditions are right, the moor keepers will be seizing these rare chances to create the magnificent Dales scenery that is admired the world over.
Habitat maintenance is not simply restricted to heather management on our estates. Creation and protection of hedgerows, woodland and watercourses are all aspects of the stewardship that make up the role of estate owners, gamekeepers and local farming families. Collectively they produce these stunning landscapes. These are the people, the characters and the unrecognised experts who have brought us these beautiful vistas for centuries and the evidence proves they know how to deliver.
There is increasing pressure being placed on our rural management methods by so-called experts and bureaucrats who believe they know how to look after the countryside. Take a look at the magnificent Dales, an area virtually unchanged for centuries and you decide who knows how to look after our moors, fells and farmland.
