First swallow of spring.

Nidderdale Moorland Group

One of the most iconic sounds and sights of spring has to be the return of our Swallows.

One of our moorland gamekeepers sent this video in yesterday as the first Swallow of spring arrived back in his yard.

Turn up the volume to listen to one of our most recognisable sounds of spring and summer.

It's amazing to think that these small birds have just flown all the way from their wintering grounds in Africa, some crossing the Sahara desert, covering up to 200 miles per day on a journey which can take 5-6 weeks.
