Feeding Time.

North Yorkshire Moors Moorland Organisation

Gorgeous photos sent in here of a Barn Owl hunting by day and carrying food back to the nest.

Barn owls are usually known as night time hunters but if food is in short supply then it is not uncommon to see them out hunting through the day. To give you an idea one #BarnOwl would need to catch around 10 shrews to equate to just 1 vole so prey availability is so important.

Did you know that you can determine what the Barn Owl has been eating by dissecting the owls pellets. This then gives a good idea of what food sources have been available.
