Curlew and their predators: facing up to reality
Peak District Moorland Group
Many of our followers will be aware of the importance moorland managers attribute to successfully fledging ground bird assemblages, not just from habitat management but also from predator control.
We have shown how legal methods are constantly targeted by members of the public that either just detest grouse shooting or the control of predators - even when it's clear that other red and amber species of birds benefit from targeted management.
This tampering and vandalism is not only illegal but it is a real crime against the species that are then predated, due to the trap not working.
Well done to the CRP team in hosting an interesting webinar on Curlew and Predators. Some key points from Ian Newton, acclaimed ornithologist and author, can be found at 20:25:00 and again at 1:02:00.
The webinar link is for an hour and a half, but those interested will find it informative (surely better than watching a "celebrity" eating some insects and arguing with each other? )
