We’re proud of our Curlews!
Nidderdale Moorland Group
In their 2019 Visit Nidderdale leaflet Nidderdale AONB acknowledged the vital role played by grouse moorland management for the continuing success of our breeding Curlews in the dale, 'Rare elsewhere, Nidderdale AONB is a stronghold, with several hundred pairs; their breeding success bolstered by grouse moorland management. On the Red List of Birds of Conservation Concern, it means it is even more important to protect what we have got.'
We are very proud of our Curlews in Nidderdale and, with several of our moorland gamekeepers working alongside local farmers throughout spring and summer to help these iconic waders, we are continuing to provide safe areas for these and other vulnerable ground nesting species to nest and successfully rear their chicks to fledging age.
