The problem with United Utilies
Forest of Bowland Moorland Group
The rural community surrounding managed estates are an easy target for United Utilities.
United Utilities has been named the most polluting water company by the Environment Agency, and yet they are suggesting that water quality will hugely improve when they don’t renew shooting leases. Is the current moorland management system really the problem, or are they targeting shooting communities as an ‘easy win’?
Not renewing shooting leases will undoubtedly lead to more wildfires as management ceases. Alongside this there will be less investment in areas that are managed. Wildfires hugely impact water quality as they burn deeper into peat and therefore increase run off. Not renewing leases will not solve United Utilities dirty environmental record from dumping sewage and will actually further increase their appalling environemental impact.
Any other industry that dumps toxic waste into the environment would be prosecuted, so why is United Utilities allowed to get away with it? It is a farce to suggest that shooting estates are polluters with absolutely no scientific data to back this up and this accusation and ill thought out policy is just an attempt to greenwash their shocking record on the environment.
