Sorry to burst your balloon!

Nidderdale Moorland Group

A reoccurring problem we keep returning to which seems to be increasing is growing amount of balloons littering our moorlands and wider countryside.

One of our moorland gamekeepers decided in summer 2021 to keep all the balloons he collected over the next twelve months to see how many he picked up during his normal working days on the moor.

66 balloons from just one area of moorland were collected during the year.

Stuck in the heather, in water courses and hanging from bushes.

These balloons will not bio-degrade.

They are a real risk to livestock and wildlife causing painful injuries and death.

What goes up will come down and when it does others are having to deal with the problems these create.

Letting these balloons go is littering, the same as throwing something down in other areas such as a town, where you would be fined.

Enjoy them indoors, do not release them outside and please dispose of them safely when you have finished with them.
