Moths galore

Peak District Moorland Group

On one of our Dark Peak estates, the Headkeeper and estate team have forged a great relationship with a local entomologist.

He has recorded some really interesting and rare invertebrates, and joined us last year when the estate hosted a moorland morning including our local MP, FRS experts, NFU representatives and local community members.

Unlike those that say moorland habitat management has a negative effect on invertebrates, this local expert appreciates the uneven age structure and diversity created by the estates team on a landscape scale - we should remember that invertebrates are often the foundation blocks of greater nature diversity.

In appreciation of what he has discovered, he created a Christmas card chronicling some of the moth species he has found - hopefully he will be able to join us again this spring on one of our moorland morning walk and talks, and impart more of his knowledge to everyone involved.
