I spy…

Nidderdale Moorland Group

I spy with my little eye !

Can anyone spot the female Red Grouse in the first picture sent in yesterday by one of our moorland gamekeepers?

The cock birds like to keep a good watch out and will use any advantage point such as moor walls, rocks and raised areas, whereas the hens tend to keep a low profile and blend into the landscape. This is a vital tactic when incubating eggs or brooding young chicks later in spring to avoid detection by predators.
