A Prime Ministerial visit to the Reeth Show

Yorkshire Dales Moorland Group

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak – who is also the MP for Richmond, Yorkshire – popped into the Reeth Show in Swaledale over the weekend. The Prime Minister has voiced his support for rural communities in the past and he did so again, reaffirming his support for grouse shooting and the rural communities – and in particula the keepers and their families within his constituency.

Hats off to the keepers Dan, David, Will, Ian and Nathan for manning the display and engaging so positively with visitors. This was a great opportunity to share facts, dispel myths and provide important information about moorland management and the ecological benefits that go hand in hand with it.

The stand featured interactive displays and information about curlew conservation, habitat creation, fire mitigation, predator control and much more. The fogging spray kit used in heather burning was also on hand, so children (and some adults) could have a go themselves at experiences fire control on a simulated fire target.

To top the day off perfectly the keepers were awarded the 2023 Tennant Auctioneers Trophy Cup for best trade stand by the show judges. This was the second year in succession that YDMG won this coveted award.

Well done to all the keepers involved with preparing the display and getting it to site as well as taking the time to connect with all the folk who visited the stand.
