92nd Kennel Club Cocker Championship.

Peak District Moorland Group

Woodhead and Snailsden Estate hosted the 92nd Kennel Club Cocker Championship on their upland estate in the Dark Peak on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th January 2023.

Meticulously organised despite the horrendous weather, well done to everyone who had a hand in the execution of the event, many spectators could view some of the finest Cocker Spaniels working in the most challenging conditions which also tested the guns to the full.

The overall winner was Will Clulee and FTCh Poolgreen Kizzie.

We had some of our “show display” set up, it’s important that even when preaching to the “converted” the right messaging is conveyed - from habitat management and modern predator control, if the public require “nature recovery” in these modern times, why reinvent the proverbial wheel, when our managed moors with a driven grouse shooting interest is ticking all the boxes for nature, along with wildfire mitigation, carbon sequestration and water retention…plus jobs?

We are also pleased to announce that from a raffle held over the two days, along with previous raffles at the end of last year, we were able to present Helen Benson with a cheque of £1000 for the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust - an amazing charity and an amazing lady.

Thanks go to Wm Eyre and Sons, Skinners Feed, BASC and the Kennel Club for donating prizes for the raffle.
